"How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionatewith the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and the strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of these.

Dr. Carver became one of the nation’s greatest educator’s and agricultural researcher's. Though the exact date of his birth is unknown about 1864), events surrounding his infancy are amazing. His father died shortly after he was born, and he and his mother were kidnaped by slave traders. He was eventually returned to the plantation from which he was stolen. his mother was never heard from again.
His childhood was fraught with illness, which left him unable to do strenuous field work, and it is believed that this is why he developed an interest in plants. An interest that led to his uncanny ability to cure ill plants. And, though, just a child, neighbors and friends referred to him as “the plant doctor”.
As an instructor at Tuskegee Institute he instilled a philosophy that education should be “made common” for the betterment of the people in the community. He promoted the cooperative extensions for the nation and created the “movable schools”, bringing practical agricultural knowledge to farmers; to the people.
And so, the park represents our acceptance of his challenge. It is there that we feel his vision can be cultivated, nurture and shared.
